Update....
We won last night 10-8. He hit two doubles to the fence. One to left center and one to right center. Also popped out and grounded out. Overall he was very happy and so was I with the results.
I'm working on posting pics.
Dawson was invited to play for Paris Thunder this past weekend. They won a 38 team tournament in McKinney. He batted 9th for them and was 4-13 with a couple of walks, a triple and a double.
We had a league game last night and he was 3 for 3 with two doubles. His confidence is way up. I'll post some pics.
Silly question: Have you checked his vision since he started struggling? May have something to do with him seeing the ball late. Sorry if someone asked already...
I would think this is a mindset issue, I would tell him that his mindset should be that he is going to hit the ball, all the way until he decided he doesn't want to swing at the pitch, this is what has helped me, just me 2 cents
1. In games bunt him. If he has decent speed, coming out of the left side he should have some success. It will increase his confidence.
2. Live arm hitting drill: Align pitcher about 30 degrees off center with the pitch coming toward his back thigh. Batters stride stays the same. We used this a lot to teach hitters to hit opposite field. Good thing about this drill is that hitters quickly learn that if they don't make contact, they get hit by the ball. We always started with some sort of soft material ball but after hitters got the hang of it we'd use real baseballs.
