I soak mine in hot water then flush with hot water. Flushing removes any salt inside the casing and it helps untangle them.

I don't turn. Never heard of that practice. Sounds like a big pain in the arse too. I do flush mine though, and not because I am trying to clean them out. I like to soak them, flush them, and soak them longer. They tend to slide onto the stuffing tube easier... are more pliable, etc.
the only thing I use non-hog casings for are for snack sticks and summer sausage. With those, you aren't trying to get a "bite". I have had collagen casings with other folks sausage and I just don't like it. It is weird.
