Well I went out today to see if I could kill a couple of coons and decided I would try a quick stand for a coyote before it got dark.
So I set up my call about 80 yards away from some thick brush and retreated back about 50 yards watching over the bank of the river.I started with female bark howls for a couple of minutes and turned to coyote pup distress.Soon after, a coyote started barking in the brush and wouldn't move so I tried a couple of different sounds but he wouldn't budge till I put on coyote with cottontail distress,he came in fast then to about 70 yards and I shot him with my 22 mag. He circled around a couple of times and then took off so I sent another round after him but I think I missed.
By now it was getting dark and I didn't have a light so I told my brother to come with a light as he was with the 4 wheeler a ways off.
When he got there we soon found the coyote only about 40yards from where I shot him.
He turned out to be a big male.
For you experienced coyote hunters feel free to correct me anywhere you think I might have gone wrong.
Thanks.
