This,I use the ones from Boss Buck but basically the same thing.It costs a little more than mounting directly to the barrel,but you're not drilling holes for moisture to get in and a place for rust to start.

I welded up a sort of "support basket" that the feeder actually sits in with legs welded to the basket frame. made it a tight fit so it wouldn't shift any.

I have done the same. My favorite feeder has a rectangle base where the barrel sits in one end and has a landing on the other half to stand on while I fill it. Two legs on the end where the barrel sits and a ladder on the other. All breaks down and fits easily in the bed of the truck.

I have used the Moultrie leg brackets numerous time and used galvanized chain link top rail for the legs. Works great. They used to sell for about $25 however, I believe Moultrie has stopped selling them.
I have found over the years, that any bolts thru the barrel will send water where its not wanted. the corn or the timer. let it set on something or weld the legs to it.
