Wife and I want to start detecting. We are beginners and would use it on land but also at the beach alot. Even in the surf and shallow water. Looking at the Garrett Sea Hunter Mark ii. Any others we should should consider? Willing to spend some $$ for a good one but not over $800.

Detectors designed for coin and relic hunting on land are a bit different than ones designed for beach and surf. Being waterproof is one big difference, but some types good for beach you wouldn't want to use on land(pulse), and some land machines just won't work very well at the beach. Really got to watch out with a land machine around the water for obvious reasons. Maybe get one for beach, one for land? I was into it for years and had several types. If you really want to get into it may I suggest seeing if there is a club around there and go meet some people who can get you off to a good start and give you the benefit of experience, it takes a while to get the hang of it. I have found many gold and diamond rings, watches, chains, old coins, civil war and even Texas republic relics, just all kinds of things. Also probably dug a few tons of pull tabs and junk. Good luck. D
