Anybody cast artificials in Port A surf?

I'll be down to Port A with some family in about a month. Sometimes when I get a few hours free from escort duties, I like to cast off the jetties, just to see what I can snag. Catch all kinds of stuff sometimes; I'm partial to Kastmasters.

But I've never had any luck with them in the surf, even casting out past the 3rd gut. Does anybody else?

I've caught Spanish Mackerel on Kastmasters in the surf. Big ones too.

Early in the morning there are plenty of trout cruising the wade and 1st gut. I've caught them standing on the sand. Tops, spoons, and jerkbaits are all great. Find the bait and you'll find the fish.

This^^^ stay in the 1st or 2nd gut. Can catch a limit without ever stepping in the water while people are walking past you to go out to the 3rd gut...

We'll be down there the third week of May. I won't be going up PINS or anything. The girls will be hanging out under the canopy around Beach Access Rd. 2 or 3 and I'll just wander up and down the beach casting.

The first gut? Seriously? Never thought about fishing there. It's barely ankle deep!

Get on the first bar depending on conditions and gradually work one way or the other and cast both sides. I'll use a queen cocohoe with a green back and pearl belly, do well on trout. Really, use whatever you have confidence in. Norton bull minnows, spook jr in bone, spoons, etc. just be sure to shuffle close feet. Top water at first light is sometimes hard to beat

Even mid afternoon you can catch good trout in the surf. I usually get on the second bar and cast as far out as I can and work it back in. Havent ever limited out, but usually catch a few solid trout every time.

I want to try in the morning up close like yall are talking about. Sounds way easier to cover some water.
