You'll enjoy it. I've shot recurves for over 50 years... yes, it can be frustrating, but it can also be a genuine source of joy in archery... I much prefer traditional archery over all this whiz-bang wheelie bow stuff, but alas, I'm a wheelie bow shooter now for lack of effort to practice and keep my trad skills sufficiently good to hunt with a stick n string. Killed many, many deer n hogs, turkeys, rabbits, even lots of ducks (got my limit twice with a bow)... I'd recommend a little book called Instinctive Archery Insights by Jay Kidwell. It is easy reading and plainly written and is the best verbal description of how to learn to shoot instinctively than anything else I've ever read. To me it is a better resource for new shooters than all the videos in the world. Only thing better is one on one instruction. That 40 pound bow is perfect to learn on too. AND it will make you a fantastic bowfishing bow when you're ready to upgrade to a little stronger bow for deer and other game hunting.

Just to add to the comment above. I will now throw rocks at that online spine calculator. Never seems to like my combinations, but I have really nice flight. Go Figure. Remember that carbon reacts WAY faster then wood or aluminum.
Good luck to you, and know that the traditional side of the TBH is a VERY useful tool.

Yep. On a 40 pound bow .500 spines are often way to stiff. Hell they are on mine at 47 pounds.
