Hi guys bought me a newer truck but my old one wasn't going to be worth trading in. I've never sold a vehicle before and was thinking about putting it on here, what do I need to do to sell it? What kind of paperwork and laws do I need to make sure I have and fallow?

You will need form U-130. You can get it off the Texas.gov web sight. Fill out as much as you can on it and sign when the sale is made. The U-130 is required for all motor vehicles of any kind, except boats, now. And includes trailers. It is the new "Bill of Sale". Hand written Bill of sale will no-longer be accepted. You will also need to sign the back of the title to release it to the new owner. Once the transaction has occurred, I'd suggest going back to the Texas.gov sight and filling out the online form letting them know you no longer own the vehicle. This will help you should the buyer not get the vehicle registered in their name, and an accident should occur. You will need as much info as possible about the buyer to fill out that form to help protect your self. This will also allow the new owner to drive the vehicle home with the registered tags on it. Not many people are going to buy a used vehicle from person to person unless they can drive it home. No tags equals a sure traffic stop and ticket. Or impoundment and arrest till they get all things cleared up.
You could also agree with the new buyer to go to the local courthouse and have it all done together. That is the safest way.Last edited by Texas Grown; 03-22-2017, 07:09 PM.
