    My experience with Rage Heads

OK guys i can honestly say that i have never shot anything with a rage except a little 35 pound hog that i nearly cut in half. I also talk a lot of junk on some of these rage threads that get started on here. However when i was getting ready to go to Africa this past summer i hadnt really decided what head i was shooting so i asked Dries Visser Jr what his favorite head was. I asked him which one left the best blood trail the best entry and exit wounds and which one he thought i should shoot. To my surprise he said the rage 2 blade..He said he doesnt like the rage 3 as much but he loves the rage 2 blades..The only reason that i mention dries saying this is bc dries sees HUNDREDS of animals shot each year. Probably close to as many as anyone in the world. So dries gets to see what works and what doesnt. Vance mccullers is one of dries vissers clients and has hunted with dries the last few years...Dont quote me on exact numbers but in 2007 vance shot close to 50 animals in that one summer in africa.. Dries said he shot all of these animals with his bow set on 60 pounds with a rage 2 blade. Included in these were a full mane male lion and a female lion.. He got a complete pass through on the male and the arrow just hung by his vanes on the female..I dont really know what the point of this post is but i guess we all just need to let people shoot the heads they want.I am one of the worst about talking bad about mech broadheads but i will stop .I will most likely shoot some stuff with the rage in the near future just to see how i like them..

I will be doing a 2 vs 3 comarison this weekend, assuming I see hogs, cuz I am down to my last buck stamp.

        Will report back!

I love the three blade version but care less for the 2 blade since they changed the design. When it had screws it was fine.

I have shot them and had successful pass throughs on two 100+ pound sows and one doe (2 blade). But lets talk about O rings again!!! I had to spend $20 at BPS for replacement O rings and blades. Ouch!

They will cut crazy good but this is getting a little expensive. Sorry to hijack but these things must be considered too.

Are the o-rings not a standard size you can buy from the hardware store?

Maybe so, Jerp but mine were so weathered that I couldn't tell what they were any more (and I didn't have my broadheads with me). Next time I will go that route I guess.

You get replacements when you buy them in the packs....

i ve shot five hogs so far with the rage two blades. and all i can say is wow!!!! pretty insane.. i ve just switched to em these hunting season. the first experiance with them i was nt to happy. i did nt blow threw the shoulder like a muzzy would. but it did its job. then i shot a doe that evening and blew straight threw her. and all the hogs i ve had all pass thru. bad like anything you cant blame the head when you dont have good shot placement. i shot that buck fairly high. here is a couple pics i have ..

you can pick up the O rings from Home Depot or Lowe's

They are 8's I believe and you get around 20 for a couple bucks.

As for the blades, replace 'em or retire them. Me, after it does it's job, the head and arrow are both retired.

I've shot 2 animals with it, a management buck at 18 yards (passed right thru, deer went 30 yards) and a Red Stag at 62 yards (went half way in and arrow fell out within 20 yards) recovered both animals. For deer I don't think I'll shoot anything but a Rage. For hogs I use all my left over muzzys.

I have a really bad habit of shooting everything really far forward. Not really far forward but an inch or so infront of the crease and i just dont know how well the rage will blow through that shoulder muscle and on hogs that plate..Oh well all i have to do is shoot them in the crease i guess.

I killed a little buck this year with my first Rage 2. I watched him fall about ;70 yards from the shot. Although it was a good quick kill, I was a little concerned about the penetration. The blades just barely penetrated the other side of the deer, and the arrow then fell back out the same way it went in. The shot placement was perfect. I shoot beman ics hunter 340s at 69lbs. The shot distance was about 37 yards. This is the only experience I have had with the rage so now I'm not sure what to think. I've certainly seen some shots over the years just not get as good of penetration as others so I'm not sure if I should be disappointed in the rage or just consider this one of those times when the penetration is just not perfect for whatever reason. Regardless, I got my deer meat so I'll probably try the Rage again next year.
