Anything I can do to make this trap better?

I keep checking the trap and it is tripped but nothing in it.

Flip it where the door swings down due to its weight. Run a string over top, down 1 side and across about 10" high. Set it on a wire hook. When the pigs bump the string it will release from the wire hook and the weight of the door will slam shut. Hope that makes sense.

Heck I don't know. That's a weird looking trap. Rabbit or coon are tripping it and getting through the panel.

Doesn't look like the door closes all the way. The pigs are probably getting their nose in behind it and opening to get out. I would cut the gate off and redesign it with a guillotine style gate.

It is propped open so they will go in. It has a small stick propping it open. The first time I set it I used a big stick and it kept the door from shutting all the way.

Smaller pics so that you could see the whole pic at once would help tremendously!!!

Might just be coons. Pouring diesel on the corn will stop the coons from getting it. Coons don't like diesel but hogs love it. Any hogs you catch will smell and taste like diesel however.

Coons and squirrels will trip it before the pigs get there. Secure the door in an open position for awhile to let pigs get used to going in and out. Once you find that they are cleaning out the trap every night, set the trap.

I've had more luck using a root stick trigger with these types of traps vs. a trip wire. Seems like trip wires are more sensitive to disturbance by non target species. Root sticks require a little more effort to move and spring the trap.

I would change that spring out for a better stronger one. Change the trigger release type. Reinforce the rear corners with more tube. Reinforce the sides with some horizontal tube or angle in the middle. Flip it over and weld some cattle panel to the bottom so they can't root under the edge and lift/flip it up and slide out. Attach the paneling on the inside of the frame instead of the outside for strength. These are just a few.

As it sits, it would be better for hauling small domestic livestock, like sheep or goats, in the back of a P/U.

Is the door dragging on the grass and weeds?

I'm betting if a hog of any size gets in there they are lifting it up and getting out. You'll either need to stake it down or weld a floor in it. That spring looks sprung a long time ago.

What if the sticks boards across the front for?

Agree about the springs. Get you some new/heavier springs. And hook them closer to edge of door.

It has a bottom of hog/cattle panel.
