    Trout fishing fun!!

The family and I went down to the coast to fish south of Aransas Pass earlier this week and killed it. Monday was cold and slow using live shrimp. Tuesday the weather was perfect so my brother, my wife and I loaded up the boat and hit the water. We used popping corks with Vudu shrimp hanging below and slaughtered the speckled trout. After catching 6-8 fish we decided to keep count of every fish caught. Get this! We caught 47 trout in 46 minutes between the 3 of us. All undersize... We decided we had enough fun and moved up and down the shoreline and caught a bunch more and since we had so much fun earlier we headed back to the same spot. We ended up catching 111 trout at that spot and moved to find keepers. At the end of the day we had caught 120 trout and only had 3 keepers. Ridiculous.

I am headed back to fish this weekend and I am really hoping we can find the keepers this time. If you have any suggestions please share. We always fish south of Aransas Pass and put in at one of the boat ramps in Ingleside.

Head a little further South and west. Try the Portland shoreline area if weather permits. If their not there I'm sure you can find a reef in Nueces that's holding fish right now. Or live shrimp or cut mullet in the pot holes of Sunray flats for reds. I love this time of year. You can catch fish anywhere.

We have been talking about the Nueces reefs and might give it a try. When you say Portland shoreline are you talking west of the highway or east?

East. Straigh North of Indian point but along the portland side. Start off a little deep and drift in shallow. I have caught some nice fish in there. Some in the 29'' range. Rarely get dinks around there, not to say they arent there but not many.

If you cant find any live shirmp and fish Nueces try the same rig you guys have been using only with a Berkely gulp in New Penny. I like arties myself but Nueces can have green water in one spot and stained just a few hundered yards away. The gulp and cork rig is usually my last resort but it is usually very effective in off color water. I call it my wife rig cause its easy to fish and I dont have to spend all my time baiting her hook.
