    Javelina pigs,how far north?

I had the opportunity to go after one last weekend but unfortunately there's no season on them in that county. I looked the regulations up on them and found out about that which was actually somewhat surprising to me. Are they not as destructive as other pigs or what's the reason for that?

And the main question is how far North in Texas have any of y'all seen one?

Native game animal, no reason to eradicate. And, they're not a pig.

Not sure about how far north, but FYI, they aren't pigs. Closer to the rat family.

And no, they are not really destructive except that they will take over a deer feeder and run most other things off

I'll be dang. I didn't know that. Either way they're really cool looking animals.

I've heard of Peccary before I just always thought it was just another name for Javelina. Kind of like Cottonmouth and Water Moccasin being the same thing. But it's apparent I just know what a Javelina looks like and that's pretty much it.

I've seen them in Gaines Co in the South Plains, and I've heard that there are some around Seymour/Vernon area.

                    Collared Peccary

I've seen a couple of world class collared peccaries in Wilbarger County.

Collared peccary aka Javelina....not nearly as bad as feral pigs. They only have 2 litters a year and average just 2-3 per litter. We used to have them on our place and I now might see one every 2-3 years...never thought I would miss them but I do.

Wow pretty awesome stuff. I started this thread not knowing that I'd learn as much about them as I have already. In my mind they were just a smaller, really cool looking hog. I'd have never guessed they don't tear things up and have all kinds of little ones. Honestly I thought they were just as thick as feral hogs in some places.

Lol Yeah that's what I was thinkin too. It's too bad I couldn't get that one. I don't know why I'd need it or where I'd put it but that son of a gun would be a full body mount if I'd have had the green light to put some heat on that sucker. Maybe someday.

We have 30-40 of them on our place 14 miles south of Electra.
They are all over the Waggoner ranch. That's where ours come and go from.
