Coax guys ...need an answer to a question..

    Please...

I need to make a 5-10' foot extension for my Covert booster antenna to get up and out of the hole my blind sits in. Its doing a decent job in its new position and extended 10 foot, but I am missing some pics occasionally during prime feeding hours where it seems to go in and out. Some days it is real good some days it is not so good. Since it worked so well in my local pig spot, I am suspecting it is just my weaker signal in the area. My signal seemed to get stronger and better the the higher I went above and to the side of this giant oak tree in my pen that is between my camera and the towers in Christoval. However because of this, I am a little further away from my feeder than I want to be with the camera .I'd like to get it in a little closer location to my feeder and off the pen fence where cows can nudge it. I think I can going up a little more with the antenna. Covert does not offer one at retail but they did say there were some available for other similar devices. All tehy could give me was specs on the antenna to purchase one elsewhere. What they gave me was the wire is "Cable:RG-174/3M with a SMA male connector.

I do not have the unit with me as it is 5 hours away.
The 3M RG-174 is pretty self explanatory. My question is....Is the "SMA" the size of the connector or does an SMA connector come in multiple sizes. I do know that the connector is smaller than say a standard connector for regular cable. Looking at pics on google, I just can't tell. I have the short antenna here but of course there is no size listing. I took a pic for reference.

I just want to make sure I am buying a wire extension with the right connectors on it. Thanks fellas..

SMA is a standard type of connector. They are all the same size. The only difference is how they connect to things(soldered, crimped, thru hole on PCBs). Any RG 174 cable should have SMA connectors on it since BNC or TNC would be way too big for that diameter wire.

I did the same thing with mine. I used an 10' extension cable that was intended to be used with a cell phone booster. The sma connections are the same size but you have to make sure they are sma and not rp sma. They look identical except on the rp sma the inside of the connection is reversed.

I'm about to leave the home office....but I'll check back in later....Thanks again!

Yes was used on a covert. It's been a couple of years since I bought it but I believe this is it.

Don't do the RG58 that will be to big for what you are wanting to do

I may need longer. I need to find a 10ft in case I do need it. but an extra 6 foot would work on the current setup plus another 5.....

Darton.....6 foot is going to work. I notice that it says for indoor use...but I cannot find a good outdoor use one. Can I cover this in plastic wire loom and be able to use it outside?

I would use shrink tube around the covering all the way to the base of the connector. This will weather proof the cable for extended use outdoors.
