    Headed to POC...

So my brother and I are taking our Dad fishing to POC Wed-Fri this week. We haven't been fishing together in about 3 years and have always gone to Port A, so POC is a new adventure. We are taking a 24' bay boat and looking for tips for this time of year. Thanks!

I haven't fished there in years, but south shoreline outside of pringle always produces something. Shoalwater bay if you can get in there might have some good reds this time of year. Best I ever did in there was during spring break week. Other than that go find some shell reefs and wade around them. Bound to turn up something.

This week is tough, me and the little brother have been fishing arroyo city and you have to work for your fish. Same thing I'm hearing from my buddy that was down here. Weather got the fish jacked up.

Pringle lake was mentioned is always a good one. Army hole shoreline and dew berry shore line. Try the flats on the opposite side of the old coast guard station. Those are a few that ill catch something every time. You can also try, bird island.. I have a few others, but hard to explain to get to..

I'm definitely not a seasoned dog, but that has been a good place to pick up a few fish almost anytime. Check out the oyster beds and grass mats across the main channel as well.
            Good Luck

Change of plans...no boat...fuel issue and don't want to chance it...

Any advice for the shore bound? We may try to rent a yak if available, so any help for yak fishing would be great too! Thanks!

You can put in on the left side of the beach. Fish that whole left side shoreline. Lots of grass pockets. It's going to be a work out paddling back. If you want to go out that far, there's a house cabin in the middle of the sloughs , it's a huge grass flat. I like to wade it, the boats coming through put fish up to the banks, well seems like it. Any sloughs to stay away from boat traffic honestly. Good luck.

Are you talking about fishing in Boggy Bayou? Never have tried fishing around in there or Broad Bayou and Huckleberry. Anyone ever fish in there?

Yes sir !! Work my way down the shoreline to Live Oak in the pockets and back out . Still follow the shoreline to Huckle. It's really good fishing. Limited boat activity most of the time. We will wade or drift depending on the wind. I love throwing some she dogs back there and corkeys is a must.

How easy is it to get a shallow skiff in there? I'm sure would depend on wind direction pounding into the beach/shoreline. I've got a 16' boat that we like to pole and sight fish.

Shallow Skiff should be no problem at all. You can pole easily. Just pay attention to the tide as always. Do wanna get caught while it's going back out. While the tide is going back out, it gets real good. I like it because it's secluded back there and limited to bigger boats that can't run skinny.

Wet and line , drink some cold ones and send some pics !!

A lot of my buddy's thought I was crazy for fishing this way. If you have any fresh water spinner baits (gold/silver) blades, weight depends on wind. It's doesn't matter. Put on a small swim bait on there and run it in different depths to find out which way they will hit it. I like holding rod tip up and running it that way. It might surprise you.

Know a lot of guys that fish gold leaf spinner baits for reds all the time and kill them...
