Odd question buying ammo at Wal-mart today??

I'm not sure how long they've been doing it (it's been a while since I've purchased pistol ammo at a store) , but I picked up some 9mm & .223 at Wal-mart today and while she was scanning my items she stopped with the 9mm shells and asked if they were going to be used in a pistol. I said "yes" and she clicked a button on the register and continued to add up my items.

Anyone know what the difference is and why Wal-mart is concerned with what I do with my ammo?

I know we all fear the Obama ammo tax, this makes me wonder if rifle ammo & pistol ammo will be taxed differently?

I left feeling as if big brother was watching & wish I had paid in cash instead of a debit card in my name .

    BTW,
    White box Winchester 9mm 115 gr. FMJ- $ 10.97
    Remington .223 55 gr MC- $8.47

Not great deals, but a "get while they have it" purchase.

      .

There is a 9mm camp rifle that you can buy ammo for .....I don't know the exact ruling but if the ammo is used in a rifle you can be 18 years to buy it...pistol you must be 21.

They have asked about 22 ammo as well and that was way before the election.

That hasn't happened here yet. Hmm, I may have to go buy a couple of boxes and see if they ask.

I'm inclined to tell them none of their business.

Wal-Mart must buy ammo differently for each region. I can buy Blazer Brass at almost any DFW Wal-Mart for $8.49 for 9mm and $13.97 for 45ACP. I haven't been able to find that ammo outside the DFW area stores.

That's probably what it was. I'm looking at 37yo later this month so no ID was necessary .
The smack on the keyboard is what made me wonder.....But they smack the keyboard when I buy adult beverages as well......So it very well could have been the age thing.

Going with the age theory -So if I'm under 21 and intend to shoot 9mm/45acp in a camp rifle, will they sell it to me?

If you are under 21 you can purchase if you are using for a carbine.

My 18 year old cousine has one of those hipoint .40s&w carbine and can buy ammo for it if he says its for a carbine.

If you tell them the ammo is for a long gun, yes, they should sell it to you. Now if you actually find someone behind the register that knows something about firearms and you try to convince them you have a 38 special side by side rifle, they may call you on it.

They ask when you buy any ammo that can be used in a pistol and/or rifle. I get asked everytime I buy 22s.

Sounds like a useless question if the answer given sways the policy.

                            Now I know....

The walmart here in carrollton asked me that when I got 22 ammo. I always try to pay with cash also.
