    Orange cones for company vehicles

I am cool that it appears many companies use them for their company trucks/employees. I just can't figure out why all the time they have to be placed out by the vehicle?

I have seen them at restaurants, stores etc. They were not on business so I asked a guy in a parking lot why he still placed it behind his company truck. He stated his company required anytime they parked to place the cone behind it.

There is a cable company employee who lives down the street. He places 3 cones around his van.

    Just asking..............anyone know why?

I was told they did it so that they would have to check for kids around the vehicle before they drive off.

      You serious Clark?

I assume it's to increases visibility to alert other drivers that a worker is near the vehicle and "creates space" or barrier hopefullly in an effort to protect said worker.

I work for one of those companies that require it at all times for service and delivery trucks. It's all about safety. The three cones create an awareness of space for safety for other drivers or people in the area. It also enforces the "GOAL" mentality (Get Out And Look) that requires a walk around of the vehicle before departure.

We actually have a picture of a lineman's big bucket truck down in South Texas that had a little girl hiding up in the front wheel well that was playing hide and seek with her friends. The trucks had been positioned for work for some time and near a home. Had that driver not done a walk around and picked up cones, that would have been a bad situation.

This is correct. 100% about safety.

Yep. Some places call it a 360 Walk around etc. Motiva Convent implemented it and cut vehicle/property damage down by 58%. It's can be just an aggravating PIA but it works.

Yep but if you have cones out, you have to do the walk-around... kind of like following a checklist.

You do. But without the cone a lot won't.

I work for AT&T. We place the cones out to perform a circle of safety. It is to get us to walk around the vehicle to make sure no kids have crawled under the vehicle.
