    Man made fish structure?

We are going to add more structure to our lake. I got some plastic barrels that I will sink with a cinder blocks so it will stand up on end. I started cutting slits in it for bait fish to use as sanctuary. What size slits should I cut in the barrels and how many? Or should I drill out a bunch of 1" holes? We are also looking for milk crates to build a few of these.

I like that milk crate idea.

I like the idea but I think more of the "tree" type structures will be better for the fish. Look at the 5 gallon buckets with pex or pvc pipe sticking out. Very simple and you can make a bunch with little labor.

I also see the crates being a snag hazard for lures.

Google is your friend on this one, lol

This is close to what I did. 5 gallon bucket, bunch of irrigation pipe or pet, short pvc, and cement.

Drilled holes in the sides of the bucket for some crisscrossing pvc, and hung the curved pex out of the top. Then poured cement in the bottom.

looks good. You can lay buckets on their sides with the mouth facing down and the channel cats will spawn.

Anything is better than a smooth bottom.

Christmas trees are great for this

Add some black pipe to it.

I like the above blue buckets and this is what we have used. One note is that I left off the lids, kinda pointless. Secondly, I bent a piece of rebar into a U and stuck it into the top and let it harden. This made upright placement very easy. You simply run a rope through the loop and lower it to the bottom, let go of one side of the rope and pull the rope up and lower another one down. It's pointless to do all that work and then have them lay on their side of the bottom.

I've used old net wire fencing rolls, all over west Texas and works great.

I've used old PVC pipe. And just kept lashing it together to look like a big star. Uses up leftover pipe and puts to good use when you have off time.

Pond Boss forum is always the first place to stop for this kind of stuff.

I have some friends on Toledo that make stuff very similar to this. I was told you rarely get your jig hung up in em.

I can tell you 1x1ish hardwood scraps set in concrete rot and break off very quickly

We are going to make some with the black pipe like above. These are more for the smaller bait fish to utilize. Thanks for the ideas.
