My daughter is playing in a softball tournament in Victoria this weekend. We will be there Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We are looking for suggestions of good places to eat and something to do Friday night. Any suggestions?

Depend on what kind of food your craving...I would suggest Double J Eatery for good southern home cooked meal. Double J is located near Academy, so that would be on the north end of town going toward Halllettsville. I would order the Chicken Fried Stead, Fried Shrimp, or the Chicken Strips with Ranch instead of the gravy. The mashed potatoes are homemade.
Then if you craving BBQ go to Mumphord's Place BBQ. They are located on the south end of town close to the softball field The ribs are the best around.
For Mexican food, I would suggest Ventura's Taco and Tamales. All of the food is home cooked when you order. Ventura is located in the middle of town.

Things to do.... Not much to do around here really, go to the movies, maybe the zoo or riverside park.
Food... What you looking for? Pump house (not pimp house) is a little pricey and nicer dining but great food and atmosphere. It is at riverside park and on the river (not sure how high river is right now but should be good). Mexican: like mentioned above there is Ventura's, My wife prefers Tejanita on SamHouston Drive, or Las Palmas. Burger Nation has good burgers. Mumphord is a good choice as well but we also have Quality packers (I prefer their ribs, sausage and brisket is not as good though and Mumphord's potato salad is the best). Then you have the usual Texas road house, olive garden, wild wings, etc. No good pizza joints in my opinion. Double J is good, good burgers, CFS and strips as mentioned above. There is a little place off red river for Chinese named Szechuan gardens I believe (sesame chicken is delicious). PicoDegao and TNT have killer breakfast tacos on Rio grand. Get a Pico special with cheese, you won't be disappointed!
If have a specific taste or favorite food let me know and I can point you there. Been in Vtown for 40+ years.
