I'm looking at buying a 1999 Polaris Ranger 6x6. Looks to be in good condition. Has 1000 hrs on it. What should these be worth? Any and all information, opinions, good/bad/indifferent welcomed!

Man I had one of these for work a few years ago. That thing was tough. I drove it all summer while we put a pipeline across the Waggoner ranch near Vernon tx. And trust me it took plenty of abuse and misuse. Climbed every hill and crawled thru every creek but one when I high centered it. The only thing that went wrong with it is at the end of the job both front cv joints had to be replaced.

Hours are (almost) everything. The early ones (including 99) are a little tricky to get body parts for, but that 500 engine is still pretty easy to get parts for, and the drivetrain shouldn't be too hard. Type in "Polaris Ranger series 10" or Polaris ranger Series 11" on ebay to check.
I have a 2003 6x6 I bought from a buddy 2 years ago with 56 (yes, 56) hours for $4k. Had a steel hard top and steel front and rear windshield frames. Jump seat in the back. He just never used the thing. Runs fine. Idles very quiet, but is pretty noisy once you get going. Ride is smooth enough. Guess it probably tops out at 35-40 mph. This one has a bench seat for 3, rather than the 2 seat buckets of the 1999.
My guess is, at 1000 hrs, the motor is nearing time for a rebuild. Remember, these were carbureted single cylinder engines. They were reliable, but they're not gonna last (usually) 1500-2000 hrs like a fuel injected that's not occasionally dumping extra fuel past the rings, etc.
Don't know that I'd mess with a 1999 for much more than $3k-$3500. With those hours, more like $2500. How mechanically inclined are you?? One serious issue, and you've got $5k hung up in an 18 year old dinosaur. Could be a deal, but be careful.Last edited by Abctx; 03-08-2017, 09:57 PM.

With that many hours/ miles the CVT is going to be a concern as well.
They ingest dust then the dust eats them alive.
They are also replaceable, as are all things on a SXS, for a price.
Engine rebuild cost? not sure, but a quick phone call to your local ATV/SXS repair shop could probably give you a decent guestimate over the phone.
