There is a nice .204 in the classifieds from Hoythunter. Rem 700 with Leupold glass. FYI

        Ultimate predator caliber

My vote goes to the 25-06. An 85 grain ballistic tip being pushing around 3500 fps will destroy a predator.

Another Swift fan here. I have been shooting the Swift for 37 years and it is my all time favorite varmint caliber.

Having said that, for closer in calling I also use a 222 and 17 Remington. Depending on your distance, the 17 is hard to beat out to about 300-325 yards. I really like how you can see your bullet hit the varmint through the scope because there is so little recoil.

But, if I could only have one the Swift would be it for me, hands down.

17 hornet because you don't need any more that 20 grs to kill a yote, cat, fox or coon

                  .243

But I think the 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 spc for AR-15 platform

I don't know if there is such a thing. Just depends if you're wanting a rifle dedicated to saving fur or killing them at any angle during a tournament. It's hard to have both all in one rifle.

I think you are looking at this all wrong. Don't look at the caliber so much as the bullet and load you shoot. I did a lot of experimenting with bullets and loads back in the 80's to 1. Limit the amount of pelt damage. 2. Best accuracy at 150 yds. It was surprising that I settled on two loads out of my Rem. 788 in .223. One was at 2650 fps with a Speer SP in 55 gr. and the other was a really hot load with a 53gr. BTHP match. The spire point would punch a small hole and penetrate completely and I usually shot into the shoulder for a quick kill. The BTHP would disintegrate inside the chest and mostly no exit wound for a devistating kill. If you just happens to hit the rib cage though it left a YUGE hole on the other side.

To answer your question I'd say 22-250 over .223

You can't kill them any deader than dead, and you named the best two in the OP. You just want another rifle......................

...........and there ain't nothin wrong with that !

Are you wanting to save the pets or no? If not I'd get a 243 with a Varmint bullet. If you are wanting to save a 204 Ruger with a light screaming fast bullet that will blow up internally and hopefully not exit.
