Sand burrs (in my area) aren't producing yet. The "burr clover" in my yard is thick as usual and with the mild winter we had my desired grasses never went dormant enough to spray without doing more harm than good. Keep it mowed and fertilized and the grass will take it over as it gets hotter

You can't. I've tried for 12 years and having finally given up. My neighborhood told me I should sell the property.

The problem is the seeds in the spiky pod can live sitting on your mantle for three years...corn gluten works but takes a few years...pulling works the fastest believe it or not.

I burned my yard every year mid jan for 3 years. Took care of them and makes the grass nice too. We had them bad !

Our fertilizer guy sprayed our front pasture with weak Roundup and it killed the grass burs and not the Bermuda grass. I don't know his mix rate, though.

              Pre-emergent every year.

But they love for you to disc them up every year and bring em back up to the top.

Another thing you can do to collect the burrs after they are present is to take a big burlap bag or just a bolt of burlap cloth and attach it to a pipe or board and drag it around behind you as you mow. You won't get them all, but you'll get most of 'em. You know how bad those things stick to everything, the burlap will get almost all of them, especially if you make several passes, cleaning it with a broom periodically. You can lay the burlap on a smooth concrete floor and "sweep" them off with a push broom, then vacuum them up or sweep them up and put them in the trash or burn them. If you have sandy soil, they are hard to get rid of as they like poor soils and thrive in mild drought. You can keep your lawn well fertilized and watered and that will keep them at bay once you have done a reasonable job at cleaning up the seeds. Also put out a pre-emergent. That helps too...

Ain't no one single thing going to be a silver bullet, but a multi-pronged approach can work pretty well for you... BUT it NEVER will end!!!

As stated above; MSMA if you don't graze livestock. 2-4-D if you do. Then use high nitrogen fertilizer a few weeks later. Rinse and repeat each Spring for 3-5 years.

I am fighting same thing. I am trying Surflan for a pre-Emerg, and still deciding on post emerg. Ag extension states MSMA, and was as told pastura from seed company. Need to read labels as they work differently on different grasses too.
