Am I missing something, you used to be able to purchase albums or even individual songs on iTunes, but looks like now you are required to have a monthly subscription to Apple Music?

You are missing something. You buy the songs/albums off of iTunes. Apple Music is a subscription service similar to Pandora or Spotify.

You sure about that? iTunes seems to no longer be an available app in the App Store and has been replaced with Apple Music.

Weird.... I've always had iTunes installed, suddenly it disappeared, and when I searched App Store for iTunes, I chose one of the pre-populated predictive search terms and iTunes didn't show up.

You are missing something. You buy the songs/albums off of iTunes. Apple Music is a subscription service similar to Pandora or Spotify.

Positive. Apple Music is a subscription based service where you can listen to anything you want without buying individual songs / albums. But you can still do that as well, for your own collection if you so choose.
