It appears the catch flips up enough for the plate to move past, but won't move the other way, so it holds the plate up.

Got it set up yesterday for a quick test run. We shot it with .40 and 9mm from about 10-15 yds, then backed up to 120 yds with the .223 and hit it with that. Even my wife's G43 with the 3" barrel would flip the targets on a good hit.

Each one appears to move up independently when hit. But they are all held from going down by the reset bar.
