    4 Days to hunt?

Say you were running short on vacation time and you were able to take 2 days off of work to be gone for a weekend of hunting....Where would you go?

I'm talking about going out of state, DIY type of hunt on public land.

I have been thinking about going for the OTC Colorado DIY elk hunt, but just remembered that I have a decent chance to draw for the "H" deer hunt this year which if drawn will use up a couple more days of vacation time. So if drawn I'm trying to decided if the 2 days off of work and 2 days on the weekend is enough time to really hunt elk. Traveling from Dallas too.

If not I could just take the wife on a nice weekend trip somewhere and plan for elk the following year.

    Thoughts from the GS?

I personally would take a nice weekend trip somewhere and save the elk for next year. That's a lot of driving and expense for a very short hunt.

Buffalo River area in Arkansas when the leaves are changing color. Not a hard drive, nice and relaxing when you get there, and you will earn major points which can then be spent on mischief

Not enough time to do a CO Elk hunt IMO.

Excellent advice. Drove through there last summer and I will be going back soon.

I think it's too short of a hunt for elk. Not sure it's long enough for most DIY hunts with no previous scouting.

Kind of what I figured. It's still not 100% that I'll get drawn for the "H", but I think it'll give me time to get it all lined up for the following year.

I wouldn't go out of state for only four days

This X 2. Especially difficult on public land in Colorado

Brandon how many H points do you have? If three it's almost a lock. How about OTC New Mexico Mulie? I'll go with ya!

Load Shiner up and lets get him on some Geese and Ducks

You, Justin and I can do a week in NM, WY or CO next year for Elk or Pronghorn

I have 2 points right now. I know it isn't guaranteed, but definitely stand a decent chance. Would depend on how many permits they are going to issue this year without Big Mineral in the mix.

I just told the wife a little bit ago, no go on the elk trip this year with the hopes of drawing the "H" permit. She said next year I'll have a nice elk trip and possibly a lease if money is right! haha I'm glad she supports my addiction to bow hunting.

I may be down to chase some mulies! I don't know if I can make it work this year though.

2 days driving and 2 days hunting would be a complete waste of time and money on an elk hunt in Colorado in my opinion. No scouting time, no acclimating, it would be very tough. Could go camping in the Wichita Mountains if you wanted a quick weekend getaway.

Yep, two days is not near enough for an elk hunt. If you got real lucky and killed one your first day it could take a couple of days to get that big animal packed out...depending on where you shot it.

Just take a weekend and come spend it with me chasing gator gar/ bowfishing OR I would do a Muley hunt. that's on my next bucket list.
