    Rifle,Scope Questions

I'm looking at one of these 2 rifles with this scope. Price difference is about $200 between the 2 rifles. Looking at this scope as well. Any thoughts or input on the 3?

    Leupold® VX-3i 30mm CDS Riflescope
Blaser USA Sauer Classic XT Rifle
    Tikka T3 SuperLite Stainless Steel/Camo Bolt-Action Rifles

Personally, I can only offer input on the Leupold. While, I've never used the VX-3i, I do have several other models and they are GREAT. Also, customer service from Leupold is second to none. On multiple occasions, I have sent in old binos/scopes for various reasons hoping for a repair. What I received instead were brand new, comparable models free of charge. I have heard many others say the same thing. Sorry I'm not very knowledgeable on the rifles in question but I like to share my positive experience with Leupold every chance I get.

Man I have been looking at that same Leupold in 4.5-14x40 and it seems pretty dang good. Cant find a bad review about them really. Lots of guys using the custom dial system like it a lot. The only thing with the custom turret is making DANG sure the velocity, temp, elevation, humidity, and barometric pressure all those parameters you give them for the turret are as accurate as you can get. Downside is your yardages are specific to those parameters and area.

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing it's a pretty good model.

What would be a good substitute if I'm wanting something that maybe doesn't have the cds?

You don't have to order the custom dial system turret if you dant want to, it comes with a regular moa turret if I am not mistaken. When you get it you get a voucher more or less for a custom turret with the scope if you want to get one. I was looking at it because I could record zeroing data or even drop data and order the turret or just use the turret it comes with and dial in my yardage or elevation in moa and have the moa wind plex reticle to account for windage correction if needed. Burris has the same thing in a 1" or 30mm tube and 42mm objective along with Nikon in the xr prostaff 5 or xr monarch 3. The prostaff 5 has a 1" tube but offers a 50mm objective. What are you wanting in a scope?? 30mm or 1" tube 40mm objective or bigger? Those options will make a difference for light transmission. You wanting a specific type of reticle?? Are you wanting one that tracks really well on its windage and elevation adjustments??

Really just looking for something to give me a little advantage with early and late light. My eyes aren't what they used to be. I would say the 100-300 yd range. Looking for quality. I have 4 vortex scopes and like them but just wanting to try something other than Vortex and Nikon which I've had for years but generally on the lower end of those 2 brands.

If its light transmission you are wanting I would go with the leupold. supposedly that's what the VX-3i is designed for. The best quality of glass with the biggest tube and objective lens is what is going to help the most. Nikon prostaff 7 with the 30mm tube and 50mm maybe worth looking at as well. I also like SWFA SS in the 10x42 or 12x42 but not everyone likes the fixed power. The have 30mm tubes and 42mm objectives and are $300 made with Japanese glass. I haven't seen and handled it but the Burris C4 plus in the 30mm tube is their version of the Leupold VX3i windplex reticle. I just ordered a sightron to try out on my long range gun. I keep seeing great things about them. They have a Sightron S-TAC 30MM 3-16x42 that I am looking into for a hunting scope along with all the others mention.

I have a Zeiss HD5, Leupold VX6, Leupold VX7, NF NXS, Nikon Monarch, and a Meopta Meostar. If I had to grab one scope out of that bunch for low light I'm going with the Meopta Meostar.

i have both VX-3's and VX-3i's. they are very good, solid scopes. I prolly have 8 or 9 of them on my more commonly used rifles. most of them do have the CDS dials on them as well. you wont go wrong with the VX-3i.
