I have a protien feeder with a dinner plate style down spout on it right now and have been having major problems with it clogging up with all the rain we have been having this December and January. I am thinking of changing it over to a PVC down spout with either a 4-way or 2-way head on it. A 2-way head is easy as it is just a simple tee on the bottom. The 4-way is what I am having to give alittle thought too. I saw where they make a PVC "cross" but I dont think they are very common and I would have to cut a hole in the middle of it to attach the 4" down spout to. Any suggestions or other ideas as I want to keep it simple and homemade if you know what I mean. Thanks.

Suggestions on building a PVC down spout for my protein feeder

Instead of a "T", I used a 3-way pvc connection or splitter.
Barrel tube comes down into center of the 3-way split.
Two sides of the 3-way split are the feeder ports, angling upwards 45 degree.
To plug the bottom (or what would be the entry into the 3-way split) I put in a pvc plug, or a flow reducer, that had a 1" hole (and I used wire mesh across that in case protein got wet the moisture could seep out the bottom). Picked up all the pieces at Lowe's or Home Depot.
In the bottom of the garbage can we put a 1/4" thick piece of a cement type board that the pvc ran down thru - (with nails across the pvc pipe, we hoped this would eliminate the possibility of the nails tearing thru the bottom the metal barrel). We used 2 nails thru the end of the pvc pipe inside the barrel It would move around nicely if an animal would hit it or bang into it.
I am not sure how high the feeder was, but the bottom of the pvc came to midway between my chest and belt (I'm roughly 6'). The garbage can was setting on top of (2) 2"x10" nailed between (2) trees.
The entire set-up worked great and I was getting game camera photos of very pregnant doe(s)... until a hog stood on his/her hind legs and ripped the entire piece of PVC combination out of the bottom of my 35 gallon galvonized garbage can.
Never did see any of the pvc sections again.
That was 5-6 years ago, going to try again this year with Hog Panels and 55-gallon barrels this time!
A photo would have made this whole explanation so much more helpful...

I too had problems with the deer breaking off the PVC. I used closet flanges/fittings bolted to the bottom of a barrel with a short piece of 4" pipe and a tee at the bottom for spouts. Deer would break them off within a couple of months. I ended building some spouts out of 4" square tube steel and haven't had a problem since.
