Getting past the magical 5000 post mark requires numerous mindless posts on threads of little importance. (That's how I did it.) As has been mentioned, get into as many arguments as possible. Find someone expressing an opinion and refute it, whatever it might be. Also (and this is very important, but not always easy) be sure you are posting on threads that will not get whacked!
