    Hanging deer feeder from tree

Thinking of building a hanging feeder to hang from trees for hog hunting. I have hunted with several hanging barrels over the years but do not currently and haven't for about a dozen years. I know we have discussed this before but thought it would be a good idea to see if anyone has come up with some better ideas/thoughts before I proceed. I will use a 15 gallon container because I know if holds 120 lbs of corn. I will hang feeder and drive my truck bed under to refill without having to hoist up and down. Anything besides varmint cage and cable for hanging to consider? I have heard that mature deer seem to like the hanging feeders...any truth to this that you have seen?

I have used them on and off for years. I currently have a 55 gallon drum hanging feeder at the house that I have had up for years. I had a 150+ in h buck eating under it. I would say the higher you go - the better! Good Luck!!!

We used to have a couple hung up with chains to keep them away from bears, but they were a hassle and not super effective so we gave up the feeder deal. Having to go in there and fool around driving and filling them did more harm than good for us. Never really had good deer hit them more than a time or two.

I would love to do this but we do not have a tree big enough to hang a 55 gallon drum in. We are to far from the lease to fill up anything smaller.

All my feeders have pens around them so I need a feeder set-up for the piggies. Went to lease Sunday evening and pigs were not hitting my feeders. Of course, I saw pigs on other feeders without pens. Just trying for another option and I really like the idea of hiding feeders. Don't know why....always have.

I've got 3 30 gallon feeders hanging from trees and they get used to them. Higher the better helps though

I dont believe a deer is capable of logical thought so they dont associate a feeder with anything other than a food source. But I have always liked to hang feeders from trees.
I typically hang them high enough so they cant be seen mainly to prevent someone from messing with it. I never had any problem with coons and a good rope was always good enough. That said, I no longer use feeders at my lease .
