I have a long commute and have went with Hyundai Elantra. Own 2 of them and so far have been great cars that get around 35 mpg.
What I like about them is I can get them with around 25k miles certified from the dealer (huffines) for 12k or less.
What that (certified) gets is the 60k mile bumper to bumper warranty and the 100k powertrain warranty. Buying from an individual nullifies the 100k warranty. I havent gotten the extended warranty on one yet but is fairly reasonable priced at a bit over 1k.

Another thing I like about them is they have a timing chain and not a belt.

Was given a Prius when assigned at day job with HFD. Was very skeptical at first. But never got under 50 mpg, usually averaged around 53-55. Drove it like I stole it and still got good mpg!. Ugly as sh*t, but 4 of us could pile in it and go to lunch. Lots of room, cruises at 85 no problem, great interior, ugly as S$$T!. I now drive a Kia Soul for commuting to the fire station, get around 29 mpg.

X2 thats whats my daily driver. I drive 90 miles round trip, get 40+mpg at 75mph with two 250lb occupants, fishing rods, tackle bag and 75 yeti. I can go almost 600 miles between fill ups.

I'm tall, 6' 4", and not the smallest guy (about 250) so I'll need something that is somewhat comfortable! Don't want to spend to much, and am looking for an 08 or newer (try to Uber on the side) let me know what you think!

I could never be without a truck so I guess I'm no help. My dad lives 1.5 hrs away and he only has cars and he uses me and my truck when he needs one lol.

I'll be the opposite! If I do this I'll have the car, with dad 2 hours away. He has 4 3/4 or 1 ton pickups between personal and farm, so I'm covered there. Plus plenty of friends in the area with pickups if it comes down to it.

That's what tractors are for gotta remember 2 things
                        1. We can't bait so no need to worry about corn for that
                        2. My hunting grounds are a full production farm! I've got my pick of 5 or 6 different 100+ horse tractors. We've got better ways to haul corn

                          Consider some extreme assumptions:
                          1) If your drive is going to be (or is) twice what it was, 40 miles each way vs 20
                          2) Current truck avg mpg is 15
                          3) If gas was $2.50/gal (it's not yet, but looking forward to it)

You could be spending an additional $144/month on your commute if you worked every workday, all 52 weeks/year. One might spend that much just on TT&L with the next vehicle.

Just how I view our options when they show up.
