An old roommate had one in his 2004. Had 4.10 gears, got about 12 mpg at best. Pulled pretty well until you got to highway speeds, where it took a lot of pedal to accelerate while towing. Also rode like a tank in the front without the heavy diesel motor in it.
That being said, it had about 6 moving parts, so when something broke, it was an easy fix.

I have a 2012 megacab with 5.7. 4:10 gears, level it and running 295/70/17's. I get around 13 mpg unloaded driving like the old man I am. About 11 going 75. 10 in town. I am thoroughly happy with the truck. Pulls everything I have needed to and has plenty of get up and go for me. I drove diesels for alotof years bbefore I bought my 1st hemi 2500. I don't miss them for what I use my truck for. My son has a 2015 with a 6.4 hemi. He loves the truck. If I pulled heavy loads alot I would consider a diesel again, but I have no reason to pay xtra for the engine and maintenance of a diesel.

I have a 2012, it does ok. I have never driven the 6.4 truck so I can't say how it compares. I have pulled a 30' camper, 18' car hauler with tractor and shredder and other larger size loads with not really any issues. It will hunt gears on hilly roads or in a head wind. To me I think the OD is geared a little high and it's only really good on flat roads. I can put it in tow mode without a load and it drops into 5th and I can get about the same gas mileage on a long trip that I can with it running in OD. Just doesn't have much torque there and that's when it goes to gear hunting. I get about 11-12 city and can get up to 14 on the highway if I baby it. I have 90k on mine, it's spent a fair amount of time in the shop. Hub bearings, two power steering pumps, pinion seal, idler pulley, exhaust manifold bolts broken and ticking when cold. One side did it, now the other side needs to get fixed. My TPMS service light is on and I'm getting an Evap system leak error code now. And it's a rough SOB. It's been a good truck but it's probably about to take a trip to the shop to get that stuff fixed and not come back home. I need to downsize.
Oh and mine is a 3.73 rear I believe. 285/70/17 tires with level kit and replacement front and back bumpers.

Man...this is my truck to a "T!!" 2012 2500 with 5.7. I have had the exhaust manifolds repaired on both sides from loud ticking at idle. My A/C went out and they had to pull my entire dash apart for a repair. I had a leak in the rear seal. I get about 11-12 unloaded and when I pull my 35' 5th wheel around, I get down around 9 or so. I actually does just fine for what I do. I have kicked around a diesel for my next one but cannot justify the extra expense, both initial and following, to buy one. I hate the exterior door handles, the flimsy console lid and how dang rough it is...again...it rides like a tank.

I had a 12 Power Wagon with the 5.7 and 4.56s and it got around 12. I have a 15 Power Wagon now with the 6.4 and 4.11s and I get around 14 or better if I stay slightly below 65. I should ad the 12 rode much rougher that the 15. But the 15 follows "grooves" in the road differently. The first time it happened it was kinda scary. Ram changed suspensions in 14 I think.
