Upcoming Varmint Hunt!!! Save the date.

    POSTED WITH ADMIN PERMISSION

The Paris Police Officers Association is sponsoring a varmint hunt March 18-19th. Attached is a flyer containing specifics as well as a score sheet. You do not have to be present at start but must be at check-in at 12 to be scored. Entry fee's can be paid online and information on that can be obtained by messaging me or Jeff at the listed number.

The hunt is basically open to any area including Oklahoma and Arkansas, you just have to be able to make it to the check-in on time at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds in PARIS, TX.

Please don't comment about rules or scoring, it is what it is. Just letting guys and gals who like to enter such competitions and hunts know one is coming up.

If you would like to know what proceeds are used for then PM me and I will be happy to answer. Thanks

            Sounds fun!
Is there a monetary payback or do all proceeds go to paris police association other than the winners choice prizes?

Just the prizes unless you enter the big dog portion which is 100% payout. I think there were only around 30 teams last year so fairly good odds if that stays the same. Either way, 4 rifles will be won.

many people like something along the lines of a 22-250 or 223. i usually won't shoot bigger than a 243 for varmint hunts. Usually I use center fire small caliber rifle for bobcat and up and a 22 or 17 for coons and smaller animals.

Most of the tournament hunters I know will shoot big guns. 308,25-06 etc. they don't want to loose an animal.

Makes sense, but it's really just a personal preference. Coyotes and such are usually pretty easy kills if hit anywhere other than legs in my experience. If I was somewhere I knew there to be hogs I might carry bigger if I 100% needed to recover the hog though.
