    Dickens/Kent county slowing down?

Has anybody else seen the lack of activity in these areas like I have? OR is it just me?

I hope not because I have not seen a "speed up" yet this year. Deer movement and sightings on our lease south of Jayton has been very slow in comparison to the previous 4 years, plus we are not seeing the larger more mature bucks like we have in the past. Not from shooting too many either. We have only killed 10 bucks off the place in 5 years.

I have only seen three does on my 400 acre place all year long. Not one single buck of any caliber.

It has been very disappointing for deer sightings or even pics on trail cams this year. We have not seen pics or anything of the caliber of bucks we saw last year. What would have been a nice 8 point this year barely has any horns left from fighting. Don't know what is going on.

My place in Dickens co is very slow. Rattled in a nice 8 twice earlier this year and passed him up. I wish now I would not have done that. Trail cam pics are of mostly hogs now.

We've had a pretty decent to good season this year just 2 miles South of Spur. My brother shot a 4 year old 12 that scored around 140", and I passed on a nice 4 year old ten around 140" that I thought would be a monster next year, and am regretting it some, but i wanna see if I can win the Big Buck Contest at the feed store. LOL.

We seem to be having more deer sightings around the areas leading to the wheat fields. I have a couple resident does who show up every morning and evening and we have the same at several of our other blinds. I am thinking with the timely rains that the deer still have some good food, and with the wheat around they can pretty much choose their meals.

We have seen an increase of trail cam pictures this past week and they seem to be hitting the corn pretty well at our feeders. I personally saw a buck breed my resident doe about 10 days ago.

From what has been turned in at the feed store, it appears not too many giants have been brought in yet, with the top deer at 142" right now. Last year at this time it was around 166".

I hunted from thursday to sunday and only saw 6 deer. 2 spikes one samll 8 and the rest does. After talking to the folks at star feed an the turnaround cafe this seems to be the norm. All the oldtimers said it will turn on mid december. I sure hope so. I have been hunting every weekend since sept 27 and am ready for a change.

RL, we are south of Jayton on 70 towards Rotan. We can see the lights of Jayton from our camp.

On my place in Dickens county I am covered up in Mule deer but the big bucks have been elusive all does and youngsters. Hoping this last weekend will bring in some of the big boys I spotted before the season. The whitetail have been extreamly slow only a few does and some young bucks all season.

On my place in Fisher County just north of Rotan there has been a major decrease in whitetail activity in areas that always produce. We have only been seeing young bucks and some does. Saw one mature buck opening weekend of rifle season that had allready busted himself off down to slick main beams. Our cameras haven't even revealed much deer activity.

The hogs on the other hand are considerably worse than years past. The head count is up to 7 for the year and that's not near enough.

Man these reports from in around Dickens, Kent and surrounding counties are not what we all really need to hear. Hope the old timers in Spur are right about the movement starting in earnest by mid Dec.

Your not kidding about the hogs being bad! I have shot 7 just by myself, and seen tons more. I shot a 273 lb. boar on tuesday that would have put me at #2 on the leader board for hogs but I wasnt signed up for the contest yet. But you can believe that I am now because when I shot him there was 3 others just about his size.
