    Who Cares About Speed??

I have been reading all the new mathews threads about how the new ones IBO at 360 or something crazy fast..I know they wont shoot a hunting arrow anywhere near 360 but still how fast is to fast for bowhunting in your opinion. I like my whitetail bow to shoot no more than 265 or so. Imo if it is faster i cant see well enough on film or with my eyes to tell whrere i hit. I do agree that for animals out west i would want like 285 or so but man i just think people are out of control wanting to shoot such a fast bow. Maybe its just because who i learned to shoot with. Heck i still shoot a peep tube and feathers sometimes LOL

I can see the benefits of 300+ ft per second for shooting the larger cut mechanicals or long range shooting. I'm shooting abt 282 with my setup and I love it. Pretty accurate out to 60 yards. I've yet to get a complete passthru with the rage 2 blade ,though, which I could probably get with a faster bow.

I am shooting 300 FPS with my 101st Airborne & can see the arrow flight as well as impact, the lighted knocks really help on critters & video. I am more accurate than ever with this setup, even more than the General I had at 285FPS, Only thing that I have found negative so far is that it will shove a Judo Point right through a Squirrel at 25 yd. ( he ran off with $22.00 worth of equipment )

I like the fast setups, I always believe the KE you have the better. Speed + Weight = KE. I don't have the proper formula but that is the jist of it.

Once it leave what does it matter if you can see it you can't call it back if it is off target.

The more speed the less you have to worry about judging distance.

I think what JT is talking about is being able to capture the arrow in slow motion frames on your camera. If you arrow travels faster than the frames your camera captures per second, quality slow motion is tough to do.

            Bowtech32: I believe its something like Speed X Speed X Weight / 480240

I did the exact same thing with a cottontail. Good thing it was my buddies arrow.

I love speed personally!I like using the same pin out to 40 yards it makes me a heck of alot more confident!

Saying this is like asking why do people use a 7 mag or 300 mag to kill whitetails. It is just personal preference I guess. The faster my bow is the heavier arrow I shoot. KE is important to me. You can never have too much, only too little.

I've never shot through a chronograph.I pick a bow based on several things. My moms husband killed a deer Thanksgiving morning with a 20 year old bow that is 42 inches long and the arrows look like they're going in slow motion.Shoot what fits you best.

I'm a speed freak- I think I got my bow shooting 740 grain arrows about 160fps. It kills them just as dead.

I like speed. I am around 285 or 290 out of my DXT and I like it, and would love to have more speed. I also like ultra quiet. Combine those two and the deer hardly move at all until the arrow's on the other side.

I shot my share of arrows at 180 fps at deer. I much prefer 280 fps +.

                            speed kills

I like the fact that my 20 pin and 30 pin are within an inch or two

when i say my bow is shooting 260fps im shooting 70 pounds and a 400+ grain arrow. I have as much KE as anyone if i had to guess. I just dont like shooting light arrows that give me speed.

and sky is close to right its
                              arrow speed x arrow speed x arrow weight/ 450240
