A friend is looking at a potential job there. What are the goods and bads about the place?

Very nice small town atmosphere on the edge of the piney woods. We have decent restaurants, WalMart, etc., but shopping options are sometimes limited. Tyler is 30 minutes away for "big city" shopping needs. We have a nice hospital with a lot of healthcare choices and enough churches for anyone to find a church home. Schools are OK and we have a nice community college with strong ties to the high school and community.

Can't really think of any downsides.

My late grandparents lived there and we still have the old house as a rent house. We're up there several times a year. Like mentioned above, alot of health care choices and many churches. I think it's a wonderful town.

still a small town. if job doesn't pan out and he invested money for a move, might be tough to find another job that fits him.

Not a bad town at all. Worked on a big ranch between Athens and Palestine when I first got out of school.

Grew up there up till high school when we moved. Lots of great memories. That was over 20 years ago so I'm sure lots has changed.
