just make sure you use a 2 blade COC broadhead and it will do the trick, carbon express makes some great value heads called dueled serrated crossbow heads, I would use 125 grain heads for optimum penetration
get some 18'' black eagle executioners and its a deer killer
More on the story....I'm busy so I'm trying to do both at the same time.
Picked this up at walmart during their archery clearance for the kids. Wife said she wants to try it and possibly hunt with it. I kept forgetting to post this up until now, so here we are.
I have two blade landsharks and DRT knockoffs they can use, just curious what I can expect.
As long as it stays accurate, and you do not over extend the range it should do be okay. I am unfamiliar with that particular crossbow.
My dad bought a Xbow from Wicked Ridge this season (says he just can't pull the strings anymore) using the rage hypodermics and had a really good season. Keep shots close and place the head right. If you are curious about your set-up try to get a few hog hunts worked out over the summer. If it penetrates an older pig it will work for deer.
If it's a hand cocking bow, be sure you get the strings cocked evenly or you will get a bunch of left-right hits. Otherwise, it's probably noisy, but it will kill something.
From my research, most xbows are shooting at over 300 fps and getting over 75# of KE from 150 lbs of draw. Kinda seems like overkill, especially if 25# of KE is enough for deer. http://bowsite.com/bowsite/features/...r/penetration/
Still have it in the packaging. Might return it later on, but I really want to shoot it and see what kind of penetration I can get at 20 and 30 yards.
I'm not an overkill person . I like dead enough and not too dead.
You can find the regular Barnett Recruit for the same price in either the compound or recurve version. I assume this 60# youth is intended so a youngster can cock it - I'm not sure how well it would do against a deer.
I actually have 3 crossbows including the Barnett Recruit compound to which I made a few modifications - mainly custom cables and string - and it shoots around the advertised 320 fps. The Barnett Recurve version can be found under $200 on occasions. Good luck.
