    Ospho rust converter question

I applied ospho with a brush on the 2 7/8 pipe frame of my welding shop..do I need to wash off the residue or just prime it with rustoleum?

I think so, but the bottle should tell you

I use a brush to brush it off after it dries 24 hours and then paint. I am painting a bunch of pipe fence right now.

What kind of brush are you using?

I'll tell you, that ospho sounds cool and all, but I painted a bunch a bunch of pipe fence in high school and a wire brush does better work than ospho does. Kept the rust from coming back, the brush that is.

I painted the fence and got to watch the rust come back over a 6 year period.
I built pipe pens on my owm place years after and only used a wire brush.

The ospho turned black with white patches, and it has a tacky surface , maybe its not completely dry,

I Ospho'ed the top of the bed on my first welding truck and there was still no rust on it 12 years later. I like it.

You may have to go over it with a wire brush a little before you paint it.

Let it dry a day in sun
Ospho turns it to zinc which is rust barrier
I use a rag instead so it's not so thick of coat

It isn't dry yet. Brush off wire a wire brush or a power tool. Surface needs to be clean for the paint. It will do better if you can get a warm day with very low humidity to paint.

I brushed it on my utility trailer when I fixed it up. Sits under a shed down here on the coast and 3 years later still no rust. I let it dry good, prime then paint. Good stuff.

                        This is the best method.

I just use an old horse brush. Just need something like that. A broom would work.

I use a spray bottle to apply it. Its holding up well on my smoker.
