    Camo Help

Thought you all might shed some light on this -

I know there has been a lot of talk about Scent Lok and other carbon camo...works/doesn't work. I hunt from both ground blinds and from ladder stands/tripods.

I see a lot of photos with people in camo t-shirts and other "normal" clothing. I am curious if, when washed and stored properly, good old camo clothes work just as well.

On that same note, I bought a mossy oak gillie (?) suit and used it several times. It seems that it was made to make noise....made out of some REAL noisy material. I cut it up and placed it on branches around me to screen my outline....worked well, but I would like to find a suit that actually is quiet.

So, I guess my questions are -

Do you all use Scent Lok and other carbon brands?
What would you reccomend for tree stands and stalking to break up my outline?
Does normal camo clothing work just as well when stored and washed properly?
What are your thoughts on wicking clothing...to help prevent human odors...outside of those you just can't hold in?

    Thanks for any help.

yes I do use it. Not all the time every once in awhile.
Yes, normal clothing does work if washed and stored properly.
Groundblind hunting I wear dark clothing and for sure cover my face with face paint or something.
No opinion on wick clothing. I wear shorts when its hot.

No we don't all use scent-Lok or any specific brand of camo...also, scent lok is in court right now trying to prove that their expensive clothing actually works! ANY and I do mean ANY camo clothes will work. **** Kirby once said "The most effective camo is the one that sits the stillest" That has always worked for me. There are big buck places in this world where you're not even allowed to wear camo...so wear what you want, sit still, move slowly and deliberately and kill lots of game!

I own a scent lok suit and I wear it only 1/2 the time. When at first point, I had a doe and a 4 pt. literally eating the brush that was around my blind that I cut. I did not have scent lok on! I think it's a bunch of CRAP myself.

They say that in order for the carbon to recharge, it needs a temp of 900 degrees!!!! A dryer gets about 160!!!!

Just take a good scent bath, shampoo, and wash all clothes in scent killer. Keep them in a plastic bag until you get out there. Wear rubber boots and use scent killer spray. Hunt the wind!

        My 2 cents,

        Ty

Most of the camo on the market is made for us not for deer....I am a firm believer that scent lock clothing works all the time if you have the wind in your face, with that said if you think it is working it's better than something that you don't think is working, I hope that makes sense.....if not, what I'm saying is use what you have confidence in as it will probably make you sit longer and quieter...What I feel is best is soft and quiet, (fleece)....the outline doesn't matter to me as it breaks up the outline of me sitting in a tree....color doesn't matter as deer sees mostly greys and something solid.....

i dont play the wind, i dont use scentblocker, but i do spray down with dead downwind. i do pretty good i guess. in mason i use mossy oak harwoods camo, when hunting here out west, use max-1 HD open country. both seem to work just fine when stalking. i even killed a buck in the wide open using the max-1 a few weeks ago. he never saw me. and again, wind was blowing towards him, down into the canyon.

camo and scentlock and all i think is more of a confidence booster than anything. does it work? maybe....but i have killed a load of deer without it, and good ones at that. heck, the buck in my avatar i killed at 8 yards without any scentlock ....so i dont waste my money.

Try predator camo to break up the outline. It works everywhere. I use scentblocker spray to cover.

I appreciate all of the help.

I knew about Scent Lok's class action... I just figured that the heavier lining must help with something. I never really believed that the carbon worked.

Again, I appreciate it. Any info on where to buy a good Gillie suit would be appreicated...as well as how to spell that!
