Jeffrey had been trying to get his first deer for 4 years now. Something has always gone wrong (hogs scaring off a buck, shot too far, Jeffrey shaking too much, only seeing baby bucks or yearlings, always something).
Everything finally came together for him on Friday evening near Ft. Mckavett / Eldorado area in Schleicher County. My wife, 7 year old daughter, myself, and Jeffrey got into a blind together and got set up. After a parade of younger bucks, cows, and various critters, a mature doe stepped out and offered a broadside shot at 125 yards. It was a pretty far shot but Jeffrey proved himself a marksman on two hogs and a ram earlier this year.
He steadied the Ruger M77 .270 out of the blind window and put his game face on. Everyone held their ears and Jeffrey squeezed the trigger. The doe dropped in her tracks with a perfect heart shot. Wow! I couldn't have done it better myself.
My wife had her Hubble telescope lens with the Canon Rebel and it was hard to get LDP's. I need to resize some of these 2000 x 3000 pics! I took a few back at camp with my point and shoot as well.
Way to go Jeffrey, very proud of you!
