Depends on your location/soils in the area and existing slopes where the driveway/road will be.

Both combinations together make a really good road in the black gumbo dirt around Kerens.

The location would be a few miles north of Turlington

Road base with oil sand on top and roll it.

Oil sand for the quiet ride and no dust, but you can't blade it when it potholes.

You can blade the gravel road, but it might be nasty when wet and it's dusty when it's dry.

My choice would be oil sand, but it might be more expensive.

The deep sand around here can be tough on road building. Buddy over by the Childrens home has put tons of road base down and base is still sinking in the sand. I would lay a good base of rock and put oil dirt down or even slag, my road is base rock and slag. There is a plant at the end of 84 at 79 that sells oil dirt. Road base from Kent Trucking was $400 for base rock and $425 for slag for a tandem dump truck last summer. Not sure if he has oil dirt.

Go with the road base option. Then, as time and budget allows look into seal coating or hot mix to put a complete product with minimal maintenance.

All I know is osr between Wheelock and Normangee is terrible! My great grandfather did a lot of landscaping and such back in the day and said the reason it's so bad is due to the soil isn't the best to maintain a road like that for long

You need to remove all the bad soils and replace with engineered soils before placing any base. If not, you will continuously be doing maintenance.

All starts at the bottom with a good foundation and drainage. Properly shape and compact sub grade and ditch lines, any water allowed to stand will ruin your sub grade. Then flexbase and oil sand for dust control, plan on maintaining it regularly.
