Broken Key Fob on Truck FYI

Last week my key fob broke off my key chain. Over a $100 to replace and reprogram. Wife finds key fob on ebay for $15. Arrives today so being cheap I go to You Tube for programing video. Can't find one for 2013 Silverado, then the light bulb turns on. There is a small slot where two pieces meet on fob. Pry open with pocket knife to view circuit boards. Place old circuit board in new fob plastic and you are in business. No reprograming needed. Dealer wanted $130. lock shop wanted $54. Not smart enough for icons or you would see the green toothy smile!

I needed to replace a lost key & fob on a 2008 Silverado. I just drove it 6 more months til the engine crapped out and replaced it with 2 new shiny Ford keys

Not an option for me. My 2013 just has 65,000 so just broken in good, but I like your style.

That's what the younger generation calls the keyless entry remote for your vehicle.

You can buy the housing at Oreily's and swap the internals for about 10-15 bucks.

I thought it was an acronym, but its just "fob." What a word.

                      Love the 'tightwad ingenuity'.
I have a different 'fob' question that I hope never needs answering: My 2015 Ram came with two fobs and push button start. They have a 'key' that can be removed from them, presumably for when/if the fob doesn't operate. However, I am left to wonder, other than unlocking the door, what can that key do? I don't find any 'emergency' key hole in the truck in case the fob and/or push button start don't work.

it may unlock the glove box, which the fob may not do. idea is you can leave something in there, locked, while giving valet fob to park vehicle. at least that's how I understood it. I have a weird thing about never using valet, so I may be confused though....

The key unlocks the doors and tailgate, maybe the glove box too as stated above. I was told by a dodge mechanic that even if the battery is dead in the fob that it should still start the truck because the truck's battery power is used to read whatever code is in the fob and not the battery power of the fob. I have no idea how the key helps anything other than getting in the truck if the fob is totally smashed or if the fog will work to start the truck if it takes a swim...and I don't want to find out either.
