    Jeep Guys

I am needing some advice. in the near future my CJ7 will be needing new tires. Most of the driving I do is on rocky terrain in the hill country of Mason & Kimble Counties. Looking for stock sized tires has turned up very little to nothing in the all-terrain department. What do I need to do to put 31's on it so I don't have any problems turning or "bottoming" out on the fenders? thanks in advance.

I have 31's on my yj and no problems at all. No lift, all stock.

the last CJ7 was built in 1986. if yours is still running the original springs they may have sagged by now. That will cause your rig to sit lower and it might not be possible to put on 31's without rubbing at full turn or suspension compression.

If this isn't a street rig and just a lease vehicle, a cheap set of extended shackles will fix you up. That way you can run 31's on up to 33's.(maybe).

I like the BF Goodrich Mud Terrains TA KM2s as an all around tire. you can order them on Amazon, in a 31"x15"

I have 31x10.5x15 maxxis buckshots on my '00 Jeep with no lift and no problems. They've held up really well, other than getting a thorn in the sidewall.

Thanks for the info I mainly drive it at the ranch but I do drive to work on occasion. I will need to look at the springs.

I have 31's on my 86 cj. I changed out my body mounts with new ones that were 1" bigger. Swapped them out in an hour or so and I think they only cost $75 or so.

CJ can fit 31s with no issue. If your springs are a little saggy, might consider a 1" body setup or get you some new lift springs or the easiest is a set of lift shackles.

I had 33's on my YJ and switched to 31's very pleased.

here is a chart that shows what tires sizes and what mods would be needed for bigger tires

Torque Staff Report The following chart is designed to show an approximation of which size [node nid="36248"][link]tires[/link][/node] can fit on a vehicle after installing a [node nid="36244"][link]lift kit[/link][/node]. All lift heights are based on suspension only lift heights.

probably not 100% accurate and probably is a bit pessimistic, but it is a guide

They do good for what I need. Only time we got stuck was because it high centered.
