    Not engine help?

So I work on small engines, but I am stuck on my own (new to me) boat engine. Right side of pic (yellow arrow) I have to lift that bar up to start boat. Once engine runs it's perfect. Have to start it that way every time though. Thoughts? Guy I bought from said to screw nut left of that arm to adjust...just not sure how accurate that is. Pic is not of my engine, but not at home right now. Thanks in advanceClick image for larger version

I'm going to guess that has some sort of connection to the choke. What size engine? Where the bar goes down, is there some sort of connection to a knob on the exterior of the outboard that would engage the choke?

I don't believe so. Choke is somewhere else I think, but will double check tomorrow AM.

That looks like the bar that holds the two choke butterflies in the carbs in sync. It should be attached someway to a external lever or a electric solenoid.

Thats the throttle linkage. Should be able to "lift" it with the control lever to get your motor started. Your control box will have some sort of neutral high idle mechanism. Post a pic of your control box.

So the control box has that lever for higher idle. When I lift that the cable moves, but nothing on engine is moving.

Some of the older electronic chokes required you to push the key in when turning the key, to activate the choke. Set your high idle with your control lever, then try to start it while pushing the key in. Just pushing the key in with the ignition on and not turning the key, you should hear a click. That click is your electronic choke kicking in. When you let out on the key, it might click again going to off mode.

It's that type, but not the reason.

Start with this. Loosen the roller part of the linkage so the roller.is not touching the throttle cam. Then loosen the bolt.through the arm connecting the 2 carbs. That will syncronize your carbs. Retighten the bolt. Now adjust the cam and the roller so roller partis just barely off the cam at the arrow on the cam. Now if the idle lever doesnt move the linkage you need to adjust the cable and take all the slack out of it. If that doesnt work then your cable is stretched or your control box has some wear inside.
