    Red light runners

So I witnessed a pretty nasty accident on my way to the office this morning at the hands of a &%^@#*@&@ red light runner. He actually sped up to blatantly run the light by no less than 7 seconds. It seems to be an epidemic these days and I'm personally sick of it. What makes these idiots think their time is more valuable than everyone else's? The blatant disregard for others' safety and lives has gotta stop!

Bring on the red light cameras as far as I am concerned, and make the fine an astronomical amount!

    Rant over.

I agree with the the stopping the idiots part, I disagree with the fine part, that's part of the problem, the government entitities figured out that this turns into an income stream. If an offense is worthy of a penalty, I say they should forfeit their driving privileges. 1st 30 days, 2nd 90 days, 3rd or cause an accident, your done and the county auctions your vehicle.

I like that idea for sure. Losing their vehicle will probably be the very least of their worries if a red light runner ever seriously injures or kills one of my loved ones.

part of the "me me me" mentality. If I am in the wrong lane to make my turn because I wasn't paying attention or just didn't know it was coming up, I keep going, get in the correct lane, make a legal U turn and come back to my exit or turn, or whatever. But most drivers nowadays will slow down, blocking all traffic behind them, try to find a way to cut across the 2 or three lanes of traffic, making everyone behind them stop, just so they can correct their own mistake. Why? because they would rather inconvenience every other driver on the road, rather than inconvenience themselves. Oh rant over , but you started it ha ha

Had a woman run a red light as I was headed to work this morning, she's lucky I was first in line and saw her coming or she'd be laid up in the Conroe ER about now. As for the red light cameras, I've never received a red light ticket but still not a fan, it is a money grab and nothing else. The worst part is the company that oversees and installs is a big time lobbyist that gets the bulk of the fine.

I am constantly amazed at how many people tromp the gas on a stale yellow light knowing it will turn red before they get into the intersection. I guess a lot of people are in a much bigger hurry than I am. Of course, I get honked at a lot by impatient drivers for being too cautious at intersections.

same here, guess the honkers should have left earlier.

Honk at me and you're going to find yourself going 5 MPH under the speed limit behind me and the closest blue hair I can find!!

Income stream or not...if you're wrong, you're wrong...you play, you pay.

I believe it is total BS to fight the installation and advantage of these cameras.

                    Micro-rant over...

                      Agree 110%

Also, they are in a hurry because they can't get up and leave on time and by on time I mean 15-20 minutes early because you know traffic is going to be an issue.

Got me twice. Both times in downtown Houston.

First time I t-boned a lady as she ran through the red light. She had small children in the van that were not in seat belts or car seats. In the collision I could see people flying around in her van but didn't realize they were children until after the wreck and I went to check on them. Thank God none of them were seriously injured. All she got was a ticket.

Second time I was t-boned by a red light runner. Totaled my truck. She fled and was able to get away and never caught.

This is why I always check both ways after I get the green light. Almost had one hit me a week ago.
