    Breeding has me confused

Today I found three scrapes, two of them had fresh hoof marks in them. I also had the following picture.

There was also a pic of a buck chasing right behind a doe with his neck swollen up.

So my questions.....are these critters on the middle of a third rut? Why are they making scrapes? Sparring?

Deer breed into Feb in my opinion. Left over does need loving equaling fawns with spots in November

Actually, the physical act of breeding comes naturally. It's the when and where that's confusing.

And it seems like the male of the species has no control over the "where or the when".

Exactly!!! That's when it gets confusing.

Breeding or not, they are still territorial...and all that testosterone does go away as soon as the does are bred.

Women might need a reason, but men just need an opportunity.
