    Texas Water Safari

Has anyone ever done this or know anyone that has?

My brother-in-law completed the race a few years ago.

A dedicated support team at the checkpoints is an absolute necessity.

Yea unfortunately many on the Green Screen are way to familiar with it. Someone will come along and tell the story.

Yup! A couple of my buddies have done it the last few years. Pretty intense few days. You have to be mentally prepared for sure

Do lots of research. My BIL has done it. FIL joined him the year our very own TBHer ConchoMan passed away attempting the race. My FIL got the same condition that caused ConchoMan to go unconscious. It didn't affect my FIL till the last stretch of the race. I believe it's called Rhabdomyolysis. FIL ended up in ICU for a week with it and had 5% kidney function at time of admission.

I personally would never do it.

It sounds like I unknowingly opened up some old wounds and for that, I apologize. Sounds like CM was a pretty impressive man.

Read the thread and do a ton of research. Know how to stay hydrated the correct way, and be in the shape and condition of your life if you do it.

                  Rest in peace CM.

Didn't know him, but remember this like it was yesterday. Very sad time for TBH.

I used to spend some time with a guy named Fred Hurd, who competed in quite a few of them going back to the very beginning. Back then you had to carry everything you needed with you, and it sounded like a grueling race. I remember him telling me about the big waves in San Antonio bay that swamped a bunch of boats. He and his partner stopped to help another team, giving up there chance at winning. Fred was an awesome guy, got me interested in traditional archery. He was involved in the ground floor of Wing Archery with Bob Lee. I loved to hear him tell stories.

No need to apologize. CM would want the race to go on.

Wowwww. That ConchoMan thread was before my time. What a tragedy. Rest in Peace.

The TWS is something I have always wanted to do, but after reading CM's story I'm having second thoughts about leaving my wife and family behind for a canoe race.

I've been thinking about this race for several years. CM's story certainly puts a sense of doubt and fear in my mind.

Wish I had the opportunity to meet what seems like one heck of guy.
