Haha......well, it would have alot more credibility if I didn't start out with a thread asking how to get shad. Probably lost a lot of trust going the "bass-ackwards" route lol

Seriously though, tomorrow I will be heading out for a few hours before work to try my luck. I'll keep you posted on results. Clarks tackle box usually carries them, but are out at the moment. Hope I get at least 6 or 8 to fish with!

If I cant fish with live shad I would then go buy live perch. I've never had much look fishing with frozen shad, but then again I don't ever fish with it. On cutbait fishing with shad or perch, fish with a carolina rig. Cut the tail off the shad/perch right by the fin and hook through the nose. Cast out and leave slack in the line. When the fish bites and the line becomes straight set the hook.

I have had a little luck with frozen, but NOTHING like fresh. I've never used perch in the same manner as shad. Is it comparable? Reason I ask is that I've never found anything comparable to fresh shad. And your methods mimic mine extremely close.

Back in ohio, I would catch alot of shad below the dams on the Ohio river. But here, I see alot of people cast net in the lakes themselves. I do have a good friend that he gave me a few of his spots to try, but as a backup, have any of you had luck catching shad below the dams of the big Lakes around here? I saw a guy trying once but came up empty handed.

Below the dam will work just like it did in Ohio.

I would always rig up about 5 or 6 tiny jig heads on a line and toss out and catch Skip jack like crazy. Made good bait as well.

White Rock Lake is in Dallas off Northwest Highway. The creek is on the north side. There is a parking lot of Lawther that you can use and walk the creek all up and down. Early winter lots of crappie, this time of year it's thick with gizzard shad

Perfect! You my friend, may have made our fishing trip! That sounds alot like what I am looking for. It's easy to go blind throw in a lake, but hard to be productive! I assume this time of year they are in the warmer Creek waters to keep from dying, so this is perfect. I'll be there and I'll pass back my findings!
