    Snow goose help

Me and some buddies are planning Ima trip to go snow goose hunting in eagle lake. Wanted to know if anyone had done it before with any guides and who they like the best. And also are the snows in good numbers this time of year? What shells to shoot? Thanks

Don't know about eagle lake but we have been seeing good numbers of snows around Nome. Cant wait for conservation season to start to break out the fox pro and take the plugs out of the guns!

I just went to eagle lake, we didnt do too well. Most people will suggest to go to Winnie, the numbers are better there.

          What shells are you using?

Have hunted with Coastal Prairie Outdoors a couple times. Not huge numbers but they have the gear and guides to bring em in if the birds are there. I hunted with a 10ga using Black Cloud BB. That was overkill, like hitting them with a baseball bat. On one hunt a kid was in out group and had no problem dropping them with a 20ga as they came in to the decoys.

Conservation season is fun if you can find the birds!

I'd try to head over to the Winnie area over Eagle Lake. 3" BB is fine. I actually hunt them with 3" #1s. I use the cheap Fiocchi shells. A case from Rogers is around $100 with free shipping.

We only killed one last hunt, but that was because we did not bring our goose spread and were focusing on ducks. It was killed with a 3" #2. Now when we start conservation season we will switch to BB shot for the geese. I will shoot 3.5" BB just cause I can and I'm officially mad at the geese so I want to kill them all...lol. I will have some 3" BB on stand by incase I get tired of shooting the 3.5s

Hunting overall is slow around the Eagle Lake Garwood area. Birds will be heading up north soon, some are already. 2's & BB's will kill anything you need to be shooting at.
