    Strange occurrence.

This past weekend my husband and I were rock hunting a county road cut near Bandera. This is a rural road with the occasional car going by but no real traffic.

About an hour into or search we both began to feel tired, nauseous and got headaches. We were both struck by these symptoms very quickly. Our legs became weak and we got dizzy. At first we didn't know the other was feeling the same way until my husband said he didn't feel well. I told him I didn't either and described what was happening. We both retreated to the truck and sat down.

After about ten minutes we both felt better with just lingering headaches. We went back to rock hounding for another hour with no other problems.

Later we wondered if some sort of natural emission of odorless gas had hit us. Do these things happen?

    Any ideas?

    Sounds like some H2S symptoms.

Either something is off gassing in that area or co2 is building up in that area from the vehicles going past.

Not sure on the symptoms. To open of an area to be any natural gasses. Can you post some pics of the cool rock finds from that trip???

X2. Oil field company on our place, don't burn it like they are suppose to, the only time they do is when you cuss them and the rail road commission does nothing about it. I'm use to it now ( I know still life threatening) but at first it would make me wanna throw up. Now it's just every other day. Sucks when we get a wind from the south, blows it straight towards our barn.

But you would know if that was around. You smell that crap.

Dont know what would be off gassing in an area like that. was there much wind? werr you down in some kind of pit, hole, ravine, etc (somewhere that a gas could settle)?

H2S would have been detectable by smell at least a short time and if it was a high enough concentration to kill the smell, they wouldnt have walked out. Sure wouldnt have spent an hour in there.

sounds like low oxygen, not some poison like H2S or CO. Recovery time was too quick.

CO2 is a possibility, but not sure where in the heck it would come from. Not enough from passing traffic to even be noticable, much less cause symptoms even on a busy interstate.

Natural gas (Methane) is a very likely canidate.

Other than those 2, If you werent near an underground pipeline, I cant think of anything else it could be.

Edit: Looking at the pic and hearing the description, my money would be on either methane or being bent over for an extended period of time.
