    What happen to this deer

What do you think happen to this bucks horn? Can a buck break a horn while in velvet then it heal and keep growing? Just a thought. How old do you think this deer is?

Looks like it's growing towards his nose, got a better/closer pic? And, yes they can injure in velvet, but keep growing (fairly common).

He's young. Probably 1 1/2, no older than 2 1/2 in my opinion.

A rear leg injury on the opposite side will cause a deformed antler growth.

I have an old buck like that on my lease that runs with a long beard gobbler that also has a crippled leg. They are unlikely animal friends. I never see one without the other.
This year he was 6 on one side and 3 on the other. Saw them for the last time this past Saturday.

              Most likely a velvet injury.

All I really know is that deer above is NOT old.

Definitely a pedicle injury, it will be interesting to see if it grows the exact same way from now on....

I've heard that a deer can break a tine and have it regrow to a certain extent. How much it will grow back depending on the amount of time its still in velvet. I have heard and seen deer that have hit a rack in velvet or gotten it caught on a fence and bent the rack so that it grows in a strange pattern like this.
