    Carpet guys....help !

About to pull the trigger on new carpet for our house and have a couple questions:

Is the moisture barrier padding worth the extra cost and can you lay it on concrete floors with no problems ?

Six or eight pound padding ?

Pros and cons of Mohawk Zen Garden carpeting ?

Thanks in advance and if any of y'all are near Tyler and want to bid, I would be happy for you to.

Only thing I can comment on is the padding---heavier padding makes carpet feel much more plush to me.

The moisture barrier pad is absolutely worth it. Especially with pets, children and man caves. Go with the 8 pound. You will be happy you did. If the Zen Garden carpet is a Smartstrand, then yes, it is a great carpet that is low maintenance. All of this works great over concrete. Having a moisture barrier actually keeps stains and smells from getting into the concrete, and either wicking back thru the carpet or just makes it hard to get rid of smells from spills. PM me your number if you'd like to visit. Hope this helps.

I know this does not answer your question, but the best thing I ever did in my house was to get rid of all the carpet!!!

A plush pad can feel nice when new. Cheap, thick pads will become compressed quickly in traffic areas and could also shorten the life of your new carpet. More Movement = More Wear.

There are some thicker medium to high density pads that pros can recommend.

We thought about all tile, but I don't care for rugs much nor bare feet on tile or wood-like flooring. We have all tile in our other house and it's pretty and easy to take care of, but cold on my feet !

Go with the tile that looks like wood flooring. You will be very happy with it. I sure wish we had.

I agree on the do not do all tile. We did it seven years ago liked it for a good while but sure miss a nice carpet floor for my tender feet.

I have always heard buy the best pad you can it will make your carpet last.

I'm with you 100% there. Our only carpet is upstairs (kids and noise) and our master closets (I like it there).

                      Dust and odor almost disappeared.

Another question. What are the best brands of carpet and is the nylon worth the extra cost ?

                        Thanks !

                        I guess that's two questions !
